The idea of lying in 40 degrees heat and letting the fat melt away from the body sounds like a dream come true.
But that’s exactly what the Iyashi Dome, a Japanese experience in well being promises.
And with the recent launch of the first such device in the capital, I was eager to try it out.
MyDetoxDiets has launched a range of detox plans including the Iyashi Dome in bid to give those wanted to kick-start a healthy regime a big boost.
Before my 30 minute session, co-owner and nutritionist Ilona Wesle explained how the Iyashi dome used infrared therapy to detox the body.
She said: “The dome was created in Japan to help eradicate the build up of toxins and restore the body to it’s natural state of equilibrium by helping your body rejuvenate, retone and relax.
“Infrared therapy in the dome heats the body directly, raises the core body temperature to produce a deep detoxifying sweat at the cellular level where most toxins reside.”
She added: “One session of our infrared dome produces the same amount of sweat as running at least 20km but without the negative side effects.
“You can expect to sweat out toxins, break down fat and burn up to 600 calories in an hour.”
With that in mind I couldn’t wait to be cocooned in the dome!
Ilona then left me to get changed into a rather unpleasant disposable pants and instructed me to lie on my front until she came in.
I did what I was asked and waited for Ilona to come in and pull over the dome around my neck and turn the heat up in the dome and left the room.
I’m sure I nodded off what seemed like ages as the heat sent me to the land of nod.
It felt soothing and relaxing and felt as if it had a massaging affect on my muscles.
Ilona then came back in and asked me to turn over on my back for another 15 minutes.
She was surprised when I said I felt the heats intensity around six out of a possible 10 and asked for it to be turned up.
However, I decision I almost regretted towards the last few minutes of my 15 minutes session on my back.
I am someone who loves the heat and with the temperature threatening to plummet into single figures soon, I wanted to make the most of it.
By the end of my 30 minutes, I was a sweating mess but rather than feel smelly and dirty, I felt really cleaned.
It’s advised not to shower for at least 12 hours after a session in the dome or 40% of the benefits are lost.
I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable ways of shedding some 600 calories in half an hour and I would most certainly have a go again.
However, I would say that like with any other treatment, you would need to change your eating habits to get the best weight loss results.
You can’t just rely on the dome to lose weight. Weight loss as we know is a combination of eating well and exercising.
Aside from the weight loss, the Iyashi Dome has a number of other benefits including helping to de stress, ant-ageing and purified in-depth cleansing.
So it’s definitely worth giving it a go!
