I’m not sure if many of you know, but it’s World Health Day Today! We’re all living longer which is great news but today’s all about focusing on healthy ageing. And while we can’t do much about growing old (unless you have a bank balance to totally reconstruct your body with plastic surgery 🙂 ) we can do lots of stuff to prevent illnesses kicking in so that at least our mature years are quality years. But we need to take action NOW not when trouble kicks in. This reminds me of the saying “It’s funny how health becomes important when we lose it.” So let’s take the matter in our own hands from today. Here’s what we can do to ensure we can still be dancing away in our twilight years.
Do what you enjoy – just 10 minutes of doing some form of activity will help to start off with. Whether that’s walking, cycling, lifting weights, running around with your kids. Then build this up to 30 minutes, five times a week.
Exercise can be anything – The gym is not the only place where you can work out. Take a skipping rope into the garden, play Frisbee with your kids or if you’re really up to date with your gadgets go do some exercise on the Wii
Add more fruit and veg to your diet – start slowly. If you’re not eating fruit and veg in your curretn diet, try to add one per week. Then slowly build that up to one per meal and so on so forth. There are loads of fruit and veg to choose from so there will be something you like.
Get some R and R – Yes it’s important to take some rest. Sometimes we are guilty of taking on too much too often. Take some “me” time and do some yoga or meditation to slow down. And there is no such thing as “I have no time”. We all have to make time. We all just get one bash at this life!
So add good quality years to your life to enjoy in your golden years. You’ll be glad you did!
