Indulging at the weekend.

Ah it’s Monday and we’re back on the bandwagon of being healthy the whole week. We promise ourselves that we will eat our five-a-day and go to the gym and then at the weekend like the one just gone we will be entitled to let our hair down.(in my case literally 🙂 ) But hang on a minute – let’s rewind a second. Rewind a wee bit and think about what you did at the weekend just gone. Did you over do it with the alcoholic drinks? Did you over eat at the barbecue? Or perhaps you stayed in and ate the entire contents of a “share” bag of crisps yourself? But hey that’s ok because you were good all week! Now I’m no party pooper by any means and I totally agree with indulging a little now and then. But I just want to make you aware of the difference between indulging and then er over indulging.

Did you know that a full can of Pringles contains a whopping 1120 calories? A robust 630 of those come from the 77grams of fat in each tube. As for sodium, there are 1190 milligrams in a can.  Half a tub of Ben and Jerry’s adds up to a treadmill busting 600 calories and 16 grams of saturated fat. And if you washed all that down with a bottle of wine, well that was another 550 calories that you drank away. That’s almost 2000 calories – practically a woman’s entire calorie allowance for the day. And fellas, don’t get too smug as that only leaves you with a mere 500 calories to play about with for the rest of the day. That would take you around three hours on the treadmill or five hours of cycling to burn that junk off!

So there’s no point you being good all week and the undoing all the work at the weekend.I used to do this and then wonder why the pounds wouldn’t fall off the scales. Apart from widening your waistline, it’s a great recipe for clogging up the arteries and giving yourself high blood pressure.

So when it comes to this coming weekend and you fancy a snack, have a think about exactly what you’re putting into your belly. A little bit of what you fancy is good, just make sure it is a “little” and not the entire calorie allowance from your day in one sitting!
